Grant Revenue
Anna & Edward C Churchill Foundation:
BCAK was successful in receiving a $10,000 grant from the Anna & Edward C. Churchill Foundation to support the delivery of our fitness programming for those impacted by breast cancer in our area. At BCAK, the fitness programs include Aerobics and Weight Training, Yoga, Aquafit, and QiGong, which is a practice of aligning breath, movement and awareness for exercise, healing, and meditation. The generous $10K grant from the Anna & Edward C. Churchill Foundation firmly establishes the delivery of the many outcomes- based fitness programming, which is critical in terms of improving the health of those impacted by breast cancer.
Saunders-Matthey Cancer Prevention Fund
BCAK was also successful in their application to the Saunders-Matthey Cancer Prevention Fund for $10,000 to support ongoing outreach and public awareness activities and events, and the expansion of post operative and treatment resources and support.
Specifically, this grant is supporting BCAK to pilot the new care pack program that will allow BCAK to provide support and outreach to those that are in active treatment–undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. The care packs program is targeted to begin in June 2024 and has been strengthened by the support and input from BCAK members. The care packs pilot program would not be possible without the support of the Saunders-Matthey Cancer Prevention Fund.
Homestead Foundation
BCAK also received a generous $13,250 grant from the Homestead Foundation to start our “Staying Connected” program, which is designed to bring members of the breast cancer community together for an art- based or recreational activity designed to create a supportive network and social connection that could benefit individuals within the breast cancer journey (newly diagnosed, in treatment, post treatment).
Research on breast cancer has shown that diagnosed women with many social connections were less likely to have a recurrence and less likely to die from breast cancer when compared with women who were “socially isolated.” Since its inaugural event in December 2023, the program has grown and created a supportive network of the most amazing and resilient group of previvors, thrivers and survivors that support each other! BCAK is grateful to the Homestead Foundation for their incredible and generous support.
Davies Foundation
BCAK also received a generous grant from the Davies Foundation for $7,500 for our Chestmates program. The Davies Foundation has a special focus on sports and health, and as many of you know, our Chestmates program is foundational to improving health outcomes by providing opportunities to enhance physical fitness levels as a complementary approach to reduce further risk of breast cancer; create a network of support for those at all stages of the breast cancer journey; and also help improve the quality of life and reduce the emotional stress and mental health impacts of those impacted by breast cancer. We are very grateful for the support of the Davies Foundation that supported the Chestmates program this year.
Rotary Club of Kingston
In partnership with the care pack program, BCAK received a $1,500 grant from the Rotary Club of Kingston that will enable BCAK to order customized bags to deliver the contents of the care packs for those in active treatment. The bags (designed to be reusable) will showcase BCAK, and will contain special items for those undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation as part of their breast cancer treatment. We are very grateful for the support of the Rotary Club of Kingston.
